Choosing a burial plot is a very important part of the funeral planning process if you want to bury your loved one's cremation urn. The cost of a burial plot depends on a few factors, like the type of cemetery, the space available, and where you live.

On average, the cost for a burial plot for an urn ranges from $350 to $2500. However, if you want to honor your pet’s ashes by burying them, you can use your yard or a private piece of land.

Ideal Depth to Bury a Cremation Urn

There are different ways to bury ashes, and one of them includes burying the cremation urn. The general rule of thumb is to bury the urn at least three feet deep. If this is not possible, there should be at least 6 to 12 inches of soil covering the buried urn.

Can You Bury an Urn on Top of a Casket?

Many cemeteries allow burying multiple urns in a grave and therefore have no issue with burying an urn on top of a casket. However, different cemeteries will have their own set of rules, so it is recommended to check with them to be sure. If you are burying an urn in an old grave, be careful not to dig more than 6 to 12 inches. It is best to dig at the top or bottom of the grave. Digging deeper may disturb the existing grave, especially if it is old.
