Can bury an urn vault in an existing grave?

Asked 4 years ago

My stepmother expressed that she be buried in the same plot as my father. Seeing as she was cremated, can you bury an urn vault in an already existing grave?

Most cemeteries will allow you to bury your stepmother's urn in the same plot. However, you shouldn't dig more than 12 inches at max in an old grave. It's best to dig at the top or bottom of the grave and bury the urn directly above the vault or casket if there is no vault.
