We are burying my mother's cremation urn this weekend. Is it mandatory for cremation urns to be in vaults upon burial?

This is all dependent on where you are burying the urn. Most cemeteries will require you to use a burial vault to prevent the ground in the cemetery from collapsing. However, if you are burying the urn on private property or in a park (with permission), a burial vault is not needed.
