Will I leave behind extra cremains if I am cremated at a young age?

Asked 2 years ago

Recently, my teenage brother was diagnosed with rare blood cancer, and his prognosis is not good. He desires cremation, but we are unsure of the appropriate size urn to buy for him after he passes away. I've been looking into urn shapes and sizes, but I'm unsure if a typical urn can adequately contain his remains. Does he need an extra-large urn?

That is such awful news. I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. The best way to calculate urn size is to use the general calculation of one pound of body weight equals one cubic inch. For example, if your brother weighs 180 pounds, you will need an urn that has 180 cubic inches and larger.
