How much ash remains after a baby has been cremated?

Asked 2 years ago

My newborn died unexpectedly, and we decided to have him cremated. I hope to get him a lovely infant urn to remember his brief life. However, I'm unsure what size urn would be ideal for him. My dad suggested looking up ash volume to find the perfect urn size. Do babies release a lot of ash after being cremated?

For a baby the average amount of ashes that will remain after cremation is between 18 to 43 Cubic Inches, which is about 0.3 to 0.7 liters. (This figure takes into account premature babies). This will help you choose the perfect urn to hold and remember your infant.
