Is MDF strong enough to make a biodegradable urn for a ground burial?
Asked 2 years ago
Good evening fellow humans. I'm looking to make biodegradable burial urns that are inexpensive and easily accessible to the majority. The idea is that the urn doesn't take a very long time to biodegrade, but also needs to be strong enough to hold cremation ashes and not crumble when knocked. Is MDF considered to be a soft or hard wood, and biodegradable for burial urns?

It is a manmade wood made up of wood shavings, sawdust, and other wood components that would've been disposed of. It's biodegradable and will break down quickly under the right conditions, especially if water is introduced because this wood is not waterproof. MDF is weaker than other wood but would be durable until the decomposition process starts.
