What volume of ashes will I get after my pet gets cremated?

Asked 3 years ago

My German Shephard is turning 12 this year and has outlived his average lifetime. He weighs about 75 pounds, and I've been preparing for the unfortunate day when he passes away. I'd like to have him cremated, but I'm not sure what size urn would be adequate for him. How much ash should I expect to find after he's cremated?

Dogs are such special animals, so cremating your boy is a lovely way to celebrate his life. In general, you will get around 3.5 percent of your dog's weight before they were cremated. So, if your dog weighs 75 pounds, you can expect to get around 2.6 pounds of ash.
