What material is ideal for a sturdy handmade urn to display?

I'm thinking about making a handmade urn for my husband. He enjoyed doing DIY crafts at home, and I intend to make a beautiful urn for him before he is finally laid to rest. I want to display his ashes in a living room memorial case, but I'm stumped on a simple and elegant material to work with.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. A DIY urn is a lovely idea. You can use a wooden box or any other keepsake box and decorate it using decoupage or other arts and crafts. You could also attempt to use paper mache or clay to make an urn.
