Will a custom-made leather burial urn preserve cremation ashes?

Hello, I've been look for a unique material to make burial urns out of. What do you guys think of leather? My thinking goes to create small cremation keepsake pouches that can be divided amongst family, or perhaps bigger cremation urns.

Leather is an extremely durable and flexible material. However, it will not last forever. If taken care of, a top-grain leather piece can last 10 to 15 years. One option could be to make the urn from another material like wood or metal and wrap it or finish it off with leather.
